Flightless Star Demo Update - Shades, dashes and distortions
I guess I can't stop adjusting the visuals of the game :V
The original idea was to keep the previous update as the last one and further down the road post a last demo, closer to the release of the final game. But with upcoming festivals and events I prepared a demo that will be used to participate in them. So, I decided to publish this demo here too (I also can link them here, so that makes it easier too).
These version fo the demo possess a very significant change to the gameplay, making it more fast paced and (I hope) more fun. The main gameplay, gravity, planets and air mobility, stays pretty much the same but with a "dashing" addition.
Visually the game has, as always, a lot of general improvements. Reviewing the colors and 2D lights of some elements to better differentiate the and the elements of the map and the background. Also all of the sprites were reviewed to make the pixel per unit between the elements of the game more consistent.
The player sprites received a lot of care, reviewing each one of them to make some corrections and to finally properly shade each one of the sprites.
And for last, I finally decided to get rid of the bilinear filter used in the player sprites. It is a very... VERY annoying dilemma to decide between making all the sprites blurry, reducing the clarity and losing some details, or letting the sprites stay completely distorted in some situations. But, with all of this work put into every single one of these sprites and animations feels a little foolish to make them blurred and harder to read. The best solution would be to never make a game with pixel art where the sprites are frequently rotating (and can stay rotated in every angle from 0° to 360°) , but this is not an option for this project.
The bilinear filter will still be used mostly for background elements, because I like how the background sprites look blurry compared to the game elements, and it helps even more to separate them
